Samui International Yacht Regatta 2008

Samui International Yacht Regatta 2008 5 days of racing and 7 nights of partying have officially concluded the Samui Regatta for 2008. With several hundred international party people in attendance at Centara Resort on Chaweng beach Koh Samui, awards have been handed out, challenges have been offered and accepted for next years event and most importantly, everyone enjoyed the vast amount of food and drinks offered at the Regattas Party Central, Centara Resort. Racing over a period of 5 days, yachts from Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Australia competed in several different classes in order to determine bragging rights for next year. Quantum Racing had won 3 other major Asian Regattas and continued on their winning streak on Koh Samui, taking the title of Overall 2008 Racing Class winner. Neil Pryde's Hi-Fi took second and Bill Bremner's Foxy Lady IV finished in third place, Racing Class. In the IRC 2 class, Matt Allen's Ichi ban won 5 of the 6 races outright, making them the Overall winner for IRC 2. Jeff Davison's boat Panic took second place in IRC 2 followed by Ben Copley's Katsu in a tie for third with Jonathan Mahony's Happy Endings. The tie was broken by the appropriately named Happy Endings based on better placings throughout the series. The Sportsboat Title went to Pornstar, winning 5 out of 6 races. Yachting Siam's Ice Bucket came in second place with Mick Grover's Moon Shadow taking 3rd. In the Cruising Class, Andrew Short's Costanza completely dominated the field, taking the Overall Cruising Title. John Stall's Princess Sharda, with sailors from the Samui Junior Sailing Squadron onboard, took second place in every race and finished in 2nd Overall, Gulf Charters Big Blue placed third in each race and finished 3rd. In the Multihull races, Cedar Swan narrowly edged out David Wale's The Sting with Toby O'connell's Dhevatara Frog taking third. |
